A true pastor, Jay Austin Brandenburg-Nau shares his insight on how to incorporate stress relief into our daily lives. Stress is now recognized as one of the biggest contributors to most of the serious diseases known to mankind such as strokes, heart attacks, etc. It is nowadays far-reaching social implications too.

If not stress is not cured at the right time, then it may cause behavioral changes such as loss of motivation, memory loss, and inappropriate aggression”, says Jay. Prolonged stress can cause relationships to break down, leading to loneliness, depression and other mental health issues, even suicide.

Below are mentioned stress reduction techniques that you can incorporate into your daily life:

Practice deep breathing several times a day

This takes just a few minutes but can make a lot of difference”, says Jay Austin Brandenburg-Nau. When you are stressed you tend to shallow breathe, which means you take in much less oxygen per breath. This brings on headaches, increases muscle tension and increases your feelings of being stressed. Deep breathing helps alleviate all of this.

Try counting backward from 10

If you know a foreign language like Spanish, French, Japanese, or what ever you can count in better, then you should go for it. According to Jay Austin Brandenburg-Nau, “Because, it will make your mind to exercise more on thinking in a foreign language as well as counting backward from 10, that will force your brain to concentrate more on the task”. This will lead to providing temporary respite and relaxation from your immediate stress.

Take time for yourself

Find half an hour each day for yourself. If you think this is impossible, try getting up half an hour earlier, or cutting out TV time, “says Jay. Use the time to read, go for a gentle stroll, listen to your favorite music or take a relaxing bath. The cumulative effect of this over time will significantly reduce your stress.
